What Does It Mean To Be Apostolic?

Whenever someone asks me the name of our church, and I tell them, “Spirit and Truth Apostolic Church,” the next question is often, “What does Apostolic mean?”   Well, “Apostolic” comes from the word “Apostle.”  Most Christians know who the apostles were.  They were the group of twelve men (and later Paul) chosen by Jesus Christ to preach his gospel (Luke 6:13-16; Acts 1:24-26 and 2 Timothy 1:11).

Moreover, Jesus taught his disciples and expected them to teach others what they had learned from him.  So, he declared, “Neither pray I for these alone [the apostles], but for them also which shall believe on me through their word” (John 17:20).

Therefore, an Apostolic is a believer who practices the teachings of the Apostles which they received from Jesus Christ.  Our beliefs are grounded in the Old and New Testaments of the Bible which are founded on Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:20).  Please visit “Our Mission” page for the specifics of what we believe.
